Details of: Belle van Zuylen/Madame de Charrière

Belle van Zuylen (1740-1805) is known as one of the greatest Dutch writers in the eighteenth century. The story tells her turbulent life story. It is based on extensive historical material, such as letters, novels and theatre plays written by Belle. She escapes her arranged marriage with De Charrière to live in Paris. There she meets he 27-year old Constant who she befriends. He has to flee to England to escape his debts but Belle keeps on corresponding with him.
